You know that you are having a skewed sense of priorities when work keeps you so busy that you do not have the time to write about the latest Meet-ups of the EU Girl Geeks. And there’s been quite a few, with new faces every time, a nice sense of sharing experience and lots of laughter and ladies that seem to have meteoric careers all over the place (you know who you are
).
So to supress my feeling of guilt, here’s a quick write up of our latest EU Girl Geek events, with thanks to all ladies that were present (and as always: use the comment box to add, challenge, redraft, etc.).
#6th Edition: Googleplex, 25 November 2010
Probably our biggest meet up in terms of participants, with over 20 girls on average…could it have been the Google massage chair? Maybe…
And as images often say more than words, here’s a quick overview of the solemn mood that reigned that evening:
#7th and 8th Editions: Place de Londres, February and March 2011
Two events in the new trendy place close to the EP. And a new face (Aurelie Feller) joining to interview us for Cafe Babel, which was really nice!
The result: a nice article (check it out here) and the opportunity to show off our iPads
As regards the 8th Edition, it was specially organised to give a warm ‘welcome back to Brussels’ to dear Elena except…her big boss made her change her plans and so she was stuck in Rome. That didn’t stop the ladies present having a ball.
#9th Edition: a bit of A-loft and party-crashing at Googleplex, 26 May 2011
For our 9th edition, we decided to chack out the trendy A-loft bar to discover, in no specific order, that:
- the music there is REALLY LOUD and does not really encourage deep and well-thought conversations
- the cocktails are nice though a bit on the sweet side sometimes (one even seemed to carry undertones of bubbly gum)
- service is…non existent, hence queuing at the bar where warp speed is not the first term that comes to mind
- we seem to have an EU Girl Geek that loves to sneek in blokes until we (kindly) scare them away (the blokes, not the lady).
So after some drinks and a session on ‘how to lose all hearing in both ears by listening to loud music’, we decided to save the day at the Googleplex where we discovered (1) some of the ladies claimed they were stuck for professional reasons to discuss the EU and social media and (2) the event being finished, there was plenty of left over quiche and pie.
